Marbling Paper with Things You Can Buy at the Grocery Store

Brief Workshop Description

In this hour-long Zoom workshop, Suzy will walk everyone through the traditional Japanese art form of Suminagashi and then demonstrate how this technique can be mimicked with products you can purchase at the grocery stores or that you may already have around the house. She’ll demonstrate milk-based and shaving cream-based marbling options and talk about how to create beautiful decorative paper easily at home.

Materials:

  • Heavyweight paper that you’re marbling, 140-300 lb recommended, such as Canson Cold Press Paper 2 shallow baking trays
  • Almond Milk
  • Dish soap such as Dawn
  • Q-tips and/or toothpicks/wooden skewers
  • Food Coloring OR inks such as Daler-Rowney FW Acrylic Water-Resistant Artists’ Ink Shaving cream, unscented recommended
  • A flat tool like a spatula
