Admissions Criteria
For All Applicants
A cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale is required for either Pre-College Programs or Summer Term Undergraduate Courses. Your official academic documents should include Fall 2025 grades, or your school can include a recent report card.
For Pre-College Program Applicants
Successful completion of 9th Grade is required prior to the program’s start date.
Some Pre-College Programs require prerequisite knowledge gained through prior coursework. Please review the program description to confirm if your transcript needs to include specific courses for you to be considered for admission.
For Next Generation Scholars Academy Applicants
Successful completion of 10th Grade is required prior to this Homewood Campus-based program’s start date. Specific course prerequisites may also be necessary.
For Summer Term Course Applicants
Successful completion of 10th Grade is required prior to the course’s start date. Course-specific prerequisites must also be met.

Application Deadlines
Whether you seek to enroll in Pre-College Programs or Summer Term courses, where you intend to learn this summer will determine the admissions timelines available to you.
Consult the descriptions in the Summer Catalog in order to maximize your opportunities as a pre-college student. There you’ll find that each program or course is designated with one of two Locations: “Homewood Campus” or “Online”. If your preferred offering is at Homewood Campus, you may be able to attend as a “Resident” or a “Commuter” student and you will have three time frames during which you can submit your application. If your offering is located online, you will be considered an “Online” student and your application will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Whether you are a Resident or a Commuter student, you can apply during one of the three application windows: Early Action, Regular Decision, or Extended Consideration.
Early Action
This is your first opportunity to secure an on-campus learning experience. When you submit all of your materials and the application fee by February 3, 2026, your application will be reviewed and a decision released on February 10, 2026. With your offer of admission, you will have until March 3, 2026 to accept the offer and submit the Initial Payment. This will guarantee that you have secured your place on campus for Summer 2026!
Regular Decision
This is the second application window you may select when you seek an on-campus learning experience. Your application will be reviewed when you submit all of your materials and the application fee between February 4 and March 10, 2026. Your decision will be released on March 17, 2026. If you receive an offer of admission, you will have until April 7, 2026 to accept the offer and submit your Initial Payment. Completing these steps is necessary to begin the course registration process. Until this process is completed, your preferred program is subject to availability.
Extended Consideration
This final application window opens on March 11, 2026 and continues until Summer at Hopkins is no longer accepting applications for 2026. Your materials and the application fee will be reviewed on a rolling basis and are subject to course availability. While decisions during this application window are typically released within 10 business days of your application’s submission, the first release occurs on April 14, 2026 and proceed forward on a rolling basis. Please submit your Initial Payment within the 21 days after you receive your offer of admission.
A rolling admissions process means that once you have submitted your application, it will be individually examined to confirm you meet the Admissions Criteria, and that you have provided all required supporting documents and the application fee.
An admissions decision will be sent to you approximately 10 business days from when you submit the application. If you receive an offer of admission, you will need to accept the offer and submit your Initial Payment within 21 days of when JHU released your offer. Completing these steps is necessary to begin the registration process. Until this process is completed, your preferred program or course is subject to availability.
When you ask yourself, “how do I want to attend my preferred program?”, then you can determine what label applies to you for a given offering.
- You are a Resident student if you are living on-campus in a Johns Hopkins’ residence hall.
- You are a Commuter student if you have arranged to live off-campus at non-university-owned housing and you will travel to campus to attend classes in person.
- You are an Online student if you have arranged to live off-campus at non-university-owned housing and you will attend classes completely over the Internet.
Resident and Commuter students are subject to the Learning at Homewood Campus admissions timelines described above. Online students’ application reviews are conducted on a rolling basis.
Receiving Your Admissions Decision
Summer at Hopkins will review your application and send notification of your decision to the online application portal. If admitted, your next steps will be to accept your offer of admission, submit your Initial Payment, and initiate any remaining enrollment documents.
